Glatt Technology Symposium
in Moscow
by Michael Werner, Glatt Weimar
In March 2010 Glatt staged a symposium in the hotel Baltschug Kempinski in Moscow which focused on innovative technologies and which was attended by more than 100 experts from 57 companies from 4 countries. This Glatt symposium was already the third in Moscow and generally considered as the best so far, as not single aspects were presented, but modern strategies, stretching from life cycle management of pharmaceutical products, technology transfer, material flow logistics, planning and realization of all kind of powder processing plants until possibilities of its financing. A few presentations on new powder processing techniques completed the state-of-the-art survey on innovation.
Besides the presentations of the experts from the Glatt Group also two speakers from the industry, Sergej Ponomarjov from the company SapatovOrgSyntes and Alexander Elejev from the company Kamparka reported on their general and positive experience with Glatt as factory designer, equipment manufacturer and general contractor. Their statements were well received by the audience, because it is more or less a rare event that Russian customers allow their representatives to report on their relationship and experience with suppliers.

One may ask why Glatt staged this event in the middle of ”the crisis”, but the timing was purposely chosen, because every crisis also bears chances for the future. The Russian industry is facing rather demanding challenges: Technically superceded equipment and the lack of product innovation make access to the international markets very difficult. Hence the Russian government has created a number of promotion programs in order to stimulate the economical development of important industrial sectors. Unlike the EC countries, which financially support defined markets and regions, Russia prefers to create positive political conditions for improvement, such as necessitating companies to provide their own means for development and modernization. This concept will only succeed with the help of banks, private investors and technology transfer.
Within the CIS, the Glatt Group is a desired candidate for the latter. Already in 1970 Glatt equipment has been supplied to Russia. Subsequent substantial equipment deliveries warranted that the nomenclature ”fluid bed” has almost become a synonym with the name Glatt. Meanwhile the equipment and expertise of the Glatt Group is no longer limited to pharmaceutical applications, but extends to all powder processing industries, as all powders generally follow the same physical paradigms. Therefore it was no surprise that attendees came from the pharmaceutical, food & feed as well as the fine chemical industries.
The lecture program to emphasised the new slogan from the Glatt Group ”Expertise in Synergy”, demonstrating that each individual Glatt company can rely on the in-house-expertise for product
development, process optimisation, powder processing equipment, process automation, contract manufacturing up to date design and realisation of green field turn-key factories, all from a single hand.
During the final cocktail party the attendees confirmed that they were impressed by the wide range of services and capabilities of our group of companies and that this will undoubtedly be beneficial for our mutual and global future.
