In the majority of applications in top spray coating, the surface coating ensures improved product handling or storage stability, for example, to protect the product against moisture, oxygen or light. Top spray coating is primarily used in the manufacturing of food products and animal feeds, or in the fine chemicals industry.

In top spray coating, the spray liquid is sprayed from above onto the fluidized particles.
Usually no perfect membrane is expected as a result of this method.

Since neither the particle motion nor the distance between the nozzle and the particle surface are standard in this process variant, the end result is a lightly porous film structure that is very well suited for the above mentioned functions and areas of application.
