Revolutionizing Oral Solid Dosage Manufacturing

Fully Automated Batch Execution in an Advanced Automation Environment

The pharmaceutical industry is pushing innovation with high pressure, constantly seeking ways to improve efficiency, quality, and sustainability. This submission introduces a groundbreaking concept for a fully automated pharmaceutical smart manufacturing system exemplified by the batch production of oral solid dosage forms. Glatt and Bayer’s innovative approach integrates advanced intralogistics, tracking technology, and data acquisition into a sophisticated automation system, enabling seamless operations, unmatched efficiency, and best-of-class quality control. Designed to meet the highest requirements of the industry, this system redefines pharmaceutical production, offering a scalable and resource-efficient solution.

Technical innovations in system architecture to improve product quality and efficiency

Level of automation is only possible when different key elements are synchronized within one ecosystem, including a completely automated electronic batch record (eBR), eliminating manual material handling using industrial robots and AGVs, as well as intelligence about all production equipment. To achieve this, Glatt has developed the Production Flow Control (PFC) system for connectivity at shop floor level as part of Bayer’s SOL1 project in Leverkusen in accordance with project-specific requirements of Bayer.

Glatt’s full shopfloor automation solution brings transformative benefits to pharmaceutical manufacturing. It ensures automated documentation with real-time compliance checks, eliminates errors and enhances efficiency by automating material handling and production processes. The modular and scalable design allows manufacturers to adjust rapidly to market needs, supporting flexible production volumes and timelines. It sets a new benchmark for pharmaceutical manufacturing, offering a model that is not only innovative but also essential for the industry’s evolution. As the demand for efficient, sustainable, and high-quality pharmaceutical production grows, this concept stands as a beacon for the future.
